If you’re like me and many other people, you don’t make enough money to live out your dreams. My dream is to achieve financial independence so I do just about everything I can to supplement my income. In my quest to find such ways I’ve come up with this list of 10 companies that allow you to make money on the side. I’ve tested all these methods so I know that they all work!

Swagbucks is completely free and you can get paid to search the web! This is truly a set it and forget way to make money. Just make an account and every time you search the web you’ll earn money. You can also get paid to do things such as watch videos and complete surveys! I make money with Swagbucks every month just by searching the internet for things I would normally search for anyway! If you sign up via one of my links you’ll get a $5 free bonus as well!

MyPoints is a free shopping rewards program that gives you points for reading e-mails, shopping, taking surveys, searching the web and “easy points.” A few times a year I receive a $10 gift card from MyPoints. If you sign up with MyPoints via one of my links you’ll get a free $10 gift card with a qualifying purchase as well!

I simply wouldn’t have a blog without Bluehost. Bluehost made it extremely easy for me to start a blog and integrate it with WordPress. I credit 100% of my blog to Bluehost. It’s an extremely well known, reputable web hosting service that is extremely reliable, secure and affordable. You can read my full Bluehost review here.

Motif Investing:

A “motif” is a basket of stocks or ETFs that’s based around an investment theme such as high yield dividends, battling cancer, social networking, precious metals and technology. The cool thing about Motif is that you can select these pre-made motifs or you can create your own custom motifs. The cost to buy motifs are $9.95 and you also have the option to buy individual stocks for $4.95, comparable to most other brokers. Motif will give you $150 for signing up too!

Ebates is another cash back shopping platform and it is often referred to as the pioneer in the space. It’s paid over $325 million back to its members. Ebates is also a free platform and all it requires is your email address.

Uber is another completely free option. You set your own schedule and work as little or as much as you want! You can make upwards of 20 dollars an hour and plenty of people make much more. Signing up for Uber is free and takes less than five minutes.

Decluttr is a way to sell your new, old or just unwanted CD’s, DVD’s, Games, Books, Cellphones and all other Electronics. Decluttr is completely free to sign up and it takes less than 5 minutes to get started.

Fiverr is an online global marketplace offering services and tasks, beginning at a cost of $5 per job. It is the most popular micro-job marketplace where you can offer your services such as creating logos for companies, writing, proofreading and editing, WordPress customization, keyword research, blog writing, content creation, create ebooks and much, much more. Fiverr is also free to sign up so start marketing yourself and make some extra money!

Etsy is an online buyer and seller community similar to Ebay but it focuses more on hand made and vintage goods.  Etsy is completely free and it’s an easy way to make some extra cash!

Amazon Mechanical Turk:

Amazon Mechanical Turk is a great way to make money and home and there’s plenty of people who make a living doing this alone. It’s another task/requester type of service but the tasks are usually extremely easy and simple and payout anywhere from $0.01 to $100. I’ve talked to people who make over $3,000 per month. I don’t have the time or patience to commit to Turk but I usually make about $50 per month from it.

My Roth IRA Investments

my roth ira investments

The most difficult part of starting a Roth IRA is deciding what funds to invest your money in. With basically unlimited options it can be a daunting task to take on by yourself. I’ve been getting asked what I hold in my  personal Roth IRA so I figured I would write a quick post about it!

A lot of people aren’t sure which broker to use when starting a Roth. It can be a tough question for sure, but I personally couldn’t see going with anyone but Vanguard. They’ve been around since 1975 and were originally structured as a client owned mutual fund company without outside owners seeking profits. Vanguard boasts extremely low expense ratios helping to give the investors the returns they deserve. Vanguard has also been credited with the creation of the index fund. I’m a huge fan of index funds so naturally Vanguard was a perfect fit for me.

Why You Don't Need To Make $100k+ Per Year To Achieve Financial Independence

A lot of people tell me that it isn’t possibly for them to achieve financial independence because they don’t make enough money. While it’s true that if you made more money and saved more you could achieve this state faster. It doesn’t mean that you can’t achieve it at all. I’ve come up with a good representation of why you don’t need to make an above average amount of money to retire early.

Someone who makes $100,000 before tax will end up with roughly $78,928.75 after tax. Someone who makes $60,000 before tax will end up with roughly $49,206.50 after tax. We’ll call it $79,000 and $49,000 to make it simpler. So even though it is a $40,000 difference in income it ends up being $30,000 after tax. A significant amount of money? Absolutely. But it’s what you do with this money that’s important. Continue reading
